THE SOLAE COMPANY SELECTS ST. LOUIS CITY AS HEADQUARTERS
Aggressive incentives keep headquarters downtown
ST. LOUIS, August 14, 2003 – The Solae Company today announced
that it has signed a Letter of Intent with the Nestlé Purina
PetCare Company to consolidate its North American headquarters
and research operations in the City of St. Louis on the Nestlé Purina
campus. It will also expand its existing R&D extrusion center
located in Hazelwood, Missouri.
“We really have to commend the Missouri Department of Economic
Development, the City of St. Louis, the St. Louis Development Corporation,
the Greater St. Louis Regional Empowerment Zone, the St. Louis
Regional Chamber & Growth Association, and the City of Hazelwood,” said
Terry Fox, CFO of The Solae Company. “They all worked very
aggressively to provide us with attractive options. Their incentives,
together with cooperation from Nestlé, made it more attractive
to expand at both our existing downtown headquarters and Hazlewood
R&D sites than to move to a different site.” Fox went
on to express his appreciation for the assistance provided by the
St. Louis County Economic Council, and the competitive relocation
offers received from the City of Hazelwood, Missouri, University
Park and the City of Edwardsville, Illinois and the Illinois Department
of Commerce and Community Affairs.
A decision was made in June to consolidate all Ft. Wayne, Indiana
and St. Louis operations into the greater St. Louis area. A team
led by Fox evaluated a number of potential sites within the St.
Louis metropolitan area, ultimately deciding on space at the Nestlé Purina
campus.
The company expects the transition to take up to one year before
the Ft. Wayne facility is closed and operations are fully transitioned
to St. Louis. “We’re glad to have made this decision,
to be moving forward, and to be able to keep our focus on serving
our customers,” continued Fox.
The Solae Company was formed on April 1, 2003, through the combination
of DuPont’s Protein Technologies business, Bunge’s
Brazilian specialty food ingredients business, and Bunge’s
Central Soya global specialty ingredients operations.
The Solae Company serves food and beverage manufacturers, dietary
supplement developers, retailers and consumers in 100 countries
worldwide including the United States and Canada, Europe and Middle
East, Latin America and the Asia/Pacific region. The company is
part of an alliance between Bunge Limited (NYSE: BG) and DuPont
(NYSE: DD). The company’s business is focused on significantly
growing the global business in plant-based, specialty food ingredients,
initially addressing soy protein and lecithin, soy isoflavones,
and expanded offerings of products and services that help customers
compete and prosper.
