8TH CONTINENT INTRODUCES GREAT-TASTING 8TH CONTINENT
LIGHT SOYMILKS
A New, Tasty Option for Carb- and Calorie-Conscious Women
MINNEAPOLIS (February 9, 2004) – 8th Continent today announced
the availability of great-tasting 8th Continent Light soymilks,
which contain 50 percent fewer carbohydrates and 25 percent fewer
calories than skim milk. The launch of 8th Continent Light is a
result of the company’s continued commitment to listen to
the needs of women who want a beverage that tastes good, but also
helps them manage their carbohydrate and calorie intake in their
attempt to control their weight. And, when 8th Continent says “light,”
they don’t mean light on health benefits. 8th Continent Light
continues to provide all the important health benefits of regular
8th Continent soymilk, which launched nationwide last summer.
“ 8th Continent Light soymilk is perfect for people who
want it all – fewer carbs, fewer calories, great taste and
the important health benefits of soymilk,” explained Liz Nordlie,
marketing director with 8th Continent. “We want to make women’s
wellness journey an easy one. That’s why 8th Continent Light
soymilk delights every time by providing the combination of taste
and health benefits.”
8th Continent Light soymilk currently is available in the refrigerated
section of mainstream grocery stores and supermarkets in its signature
64-ounce, recyclable, blue hourglass-shaped bottle. It is available
in Chocolate and Vanilla flavors.
“ In addition to the benefits of soy protein, 8th Continent
Light soymilk is an excellent source of calcium, which plays a positive
role in maintaining overall bone health. In fact, it contains as
much calcium as cow’s milk, and each serving provides vitamins
D, A, B12 and riboflavin – nutrients important for good health,”
explains Elizabeth Somer, registered dietitian, nutritionist and
author of many books including Nutrition for Women. “It also
provides a good source of high-quality protein.”
As stated by the Food and Drug Administration, 25 grams of soy
protein per day, as part of a diet low in saturated fat and cholesterol,
can help lower cholesterol and reduce the risk of heart disease.
8th Continent Light soymilk is an excellent way to get the heart-health
benefits of soy protein. Each flavor of 8th Continent Light soymilk
is low in fat, low in saturated fat, naturally cholesterol-free,
and contains 7 grams of high-quality Solae® brand soy protein
per serving. And 8th Continent Light soymilk carries the American
Heart Association (AHA) heart check mark because it meets its food
criteria for saturated fat and cholesterol for healthy people over
the age of two.
According to the AHA, maintaining healthy food habits may help
reduce several major risk factors for heart disease including high
cholesterol, high blood pressure and excess body weight.
8th Continent Light soymilk is a new product offering from 8th
Continent L.L.C., a joint venture between General Mills, a company
with years of experience in developing successful consumer brands,
and DuPont Nutrition & Health, a company that provides superior
health-based ingredients. The mission of the joint venture is to
provide consumers with both a new way to think about soymilk as
well as a great-tasting soymilk.
