8th Continent? Launches Nation’s First Refrigerated Juice/Soy Beverage


MINNEAPOLIS and ST. LOUIS (January 31, 2006) – 8th Continent Soymilk today launched 8th Continent Refreshers, America’s first refrigerated juice and soy protein blended beverage. Each 8 oz. serving of the heart healthy drink contains real fruit juice, 20% of the daily value of calcium, 100% of daily value of Vitamin C and 6.25 grams of Solae ® brand soy protein.

“Each glass of 8th Continent Refreshers has the great taste of juice and the goodness of Solae ® brand soy protein,” said John Starkey, Marketing Director at 8th Continent. “Our expertise in blending soy protein with other ingredients ensures that our products delight consumers with a delicious taste experience every time they take a sip. Consumers will love this healthy and refreshing way to add soy protein to their diet.”

8th Continent is no stranger to successfully launching new beverages. Sales of the company’s popular line of soymilks continue to grow, earning 17 percent of refrigerated soymilk category sales after only two years of nationwide availability. Demand for soy beverages will likely continue growing as manufacturers introduce new products with improved taste and a greater presence in mainstream retail outlets.

“8th Continent brings consumers a new attitude about wellness. Our products not only have great taste, but a heart health benefit,” added Starkey.

Few foods have been examined as thoroughly as soy. In 1999, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration concluded 25 grams of soy protein per day as part of a diet low in saturated fat and cholesterol may help lower cholesterol and reduce the risk of heart disease. New research is currently exploring soy protein’s role in other areas of human nutrition, including weight management.

8th Continent Strawberry-Banana Refreshers and 8th Continent Orange-Pineapple-Banana Refreshers are available in 48 oz. bottles and can be found in the refrigerated section of many grocery stores for a suggested retail price of $3.29.
