Ingredients & Applications
Solae's products come from one of nature's best resources: the soybean. This little seed packs a functional and nutritional punch. Nearly 40 percent of the seed is comprised of protein and a complete, high-quality protein at that. Soy's protein contains all of the nine essential amino acids at the required levels to meet human growth and development needs of children and adults. Almost 20 percent of the soybean is oil, which can be used as lecithin for emulsification and as a source of vitamin E. Fifteen percent of the bean is composed of fiber, which helps promote normal digestive health.
Solae processes soybeans to make ingredients for food, meat, and nutritional foods industries. During the processing of soybeans, they are first cleaned, conditioned, cracked, dehulled and rolled into flakes. The next step is to remove the soy oil from the flakes. The flakes are then dried, creating "defatted soybean flakes." This defatted material is the basis for the three major soy protein product categories: isolates, concentrates and flours. Solae also produces various lecithins and dietary fibers through this process.
